Oops. DNS Mixup Yesterday

- - posted in Ancient Archives

My server’s IP address changed and I didn’t notice - I’m running the DNS with another ISP, so www.binary-ape.org was pointing at the wrong server. Doh. This is fixed now, and hopefully won’t happen too often. Despite appearances, www.34sp.com had not shut me down :-)

Intellectual Property Rights ‘harm Poor’

- - posted in Ancient Archives

How long until a multinational company patents poverty and demands that the world’s poor pay a poverty license? Restricted Anti-AIDS drugs today, restricted food tomorrow. Governments are deliberately creating artificial scarcity to boost the profits of a few massive companies. Not good.

Well done <a href="http://www.iprcommission.org/">CIPR</a>, for daring to speak out.

Animatrix

Mmmmm. Each of the seven episodes has a different director and animation team, creating a nice mix of styles, from flat comic book to 3D rendered.

MSX Games Radio

- - posted in Ancient Archives

I used to be crazy about MSX computers, back in the 8bit 1980s. This Internet radio station shows that there are still people who are crazy about MSX computers. Or just crazy: streaming MSX game music, and even weirder, remixes and covers of MSX game music. If you want a “stadium rock” remix of “Antarctic Adventure”, this is the place.

Java MSX Emulator

- - posted in Ancient Archives

I wonder how long it will be before we have a Windows XP PC running inside a Java box on a webpage… Old hardware doesn’t die, it just becomes software. You’ll need a fast PC to run the Java based emulator. This one will be faster but it needs downloading and installing first.

Gorilla Art

Koko the gorilla is best known for talking to humans with sign language and computer interfaces, but she also paints. Koko the gorilla is best known for talking to humans with sign language and computer interfaces, but she also paints. Unlike the abstract paintings of elephants, Koko’s art is illustration - she paints real things, often from memory, and names them. Unlike the elephants Koko can discuss her art.

Just What the World Needs

- - posted in Ancient Archives

“More blogs! More Blogs!” chanted the crowds in every street. What could I do but give in to their demands?

Or:

I recently realised that a couple of times a day I think “If I had a blog, I’d link to that/write about that/bore people with that.” I tend to send a lot of very short emails containing “interesting” links, too. So I’ve decided to give it a try.

If you want to see the blogs that inspired me to start doing this (with another million people), look at sites like Haddock, Boing Boing and Alan Cox and Telsa’s diaries.
